Practice makes perfect. Why do we apply this principles in our private life but not at work? Why do we stop our personal learning when we get to work and see re-fresher training as non value add?

Change Management

If there is one item on every leaders agenda today it will be about how to manage change in some form. Whether it be organisational restructures, new product introduction, new technology, new people, new projects and initiatives, new strategy or just moving premises......change is part of every employees daily life.

Perhaps this is part of the problem. There is so much change going on that people feel overwhelmed and need support in dealing with change.

Unfortunately the next email telling the employee to 'get on the train or you will be left behind', gets lost amongst all the other noise going on and resistance starts to develop.

All leaders realise that change is inevitable and know that they need to manage this resistance, yet so many organisations fail to develop strategies for managing change effectively.

Organisations need to focus on three things to implement successful change initiatives.

1. Manage the change project

2. Manage the employee transition process

3. Manage the engagement process

On the positive side, most organisations are great at managing the change project. Just ask and the change leader will show you a multitude of Gantt Charts, Milestone Planning documents, Risk Assessment strategies, Excel spreadsheets and Powerpoint presentations.

But where is the evidence of managing the people?

Based on the work by the leading change expert, John Kotter, two interventions have been developed that will help you manage employee resistance, help them through difficult transitions, and finally accept and support the change.

Managing Employee Transitions

Change Acceptance Process

Both these interventions contain pragmatic and action oriented approaches to help you manage the people side of change within your organisation.
